Jane Bowen

Jane leads the National Audit Quality team at BDO in Australia, which includes responsibility for supporting the audit service line in all activities that impact on audit quality. Key activities include:

• Responsibility for the Audit Quality Framework which is the system of quality management, in respect of assurance and related services engagements as reported on in the firm’s annual transparency report
• Responsibility for ensuring the partners and staff are provided with appropriate software tools, technical resources, training and technical support to perform high quality assurance engagements in accordance with professional standards, regulatory requirements and firm policies
• Communicating to partners ad staff on a regular basis on all matters of audit quality including ethics
• Monitoring firm and engagement performance through inspection programs and audit quality indicators ensuring there is follow up on any matters that may suggest a quality issue exists
• Providing advice on audit technical matters supporting a culture of consultation
• Managing interactions with local and foreign regulators including understanding of findings to determine root causes and ensure appropriate responses and remedial actions are implemented
• Overseeing the audit transformation projects which focus on innovating how we audit to drive audit quality
• Representing the firm on various regulatory groups in the profession, including engaging with policymakers on the latest audit technical developments
• Contributing and influencing BDO Global audit initiatives.

Jane has over 20 years of experience in the auditing profession, with both practical experience on a wide range of clients and in the technical field across both the UK and Australia.

Expertise

• All audit and assurance matters including independence in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards (ASAs), International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) and the Code of Ethics (including independence standards)
• Quality management systems and processes including root cause analysis
• Keynote presenter at local and international conferences

• BDO representative on the Australian Audit and Accounting Public Policy Committee
• Member of the BDO in Australia National Audit Committee and National Risk Management Committee
