BDO recognised at Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards

BDO’s commitment to developing innovative technology in the cybersecurity field was recognised for the second consecutive year at the Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards.

BDO was honoured among a global field of top Microsoft partners that have developed and delivered outstanding Microsoft Cloud applications, services, devices, and AI innovation during the past year, clinching gongs in the SI Empowering Customer Innovation and Secure Productivity global categories.

BDO in Australia's National Leader of Cyber Security, Leon Fouche, said it was particularly pleasing to see a collaboration between BDO and the Queensland Government Customer and Digital Group Cyber Security Unit recognised. “We’ve been working alongside the Queensland Government on the development of an Essential 8 Dashboard that underpins the Secure Productivity Award, in conjunction with BDO Global products targeting cyber improvements for our clients.

“Innovating alongside Microsoft on this project was also an integral piece in helping us develop technology which helps support Australia’s 2023-2030 Cyber Strategy.

We've really taken a lot of support from Microsoft at a deep technical level in developing this. “They’ve been a great partner for us in terms of accelerating the development and enabling like a small team to innovate quickly.”

The Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards recognise Microsoft partners that have developed and delivered outstanding Microsoft-based applications, services, and devices during the past year. BDO Senior Security Architect Nathan Carey said the product has vast potential to help accelerate organisations’ compliance with industry standards and regulations.

“We have developed a comprehensive dashboard that offers portfolio-level insights into Essential 8 compliance across multiple agencies.

“This tool allows for detailed drilldowns to examine individual agencies' performance at the control level.

“By incorporating a ‘gamified’ approach to compliance, it makes the process engaging and interactive.”

“This enables the Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit to easily identify areas needing improvement across the portfolio while highlighting standout agencies whose exemplary compliance can serve as a model for others.”

The new dashboard leverages cutting-edge development techniques and integrates with Microsoft's security tools to provide detailed compliance insights.

Agencies can use their individual dashboards for improvement, while the Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit benefits from a portfolio-level view to guide maturity improvement activities.

“Based on PowerBI and inspired by Microsoft's 'Secure Score,' this tool is continuously refined in collaboration with Government officials to ensure it meets the needs of senior executives”. Nathan said the product has vast potential to be shared further and help organisations become compliant with The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act.

“With our new technology, organisations can now gain a clear understanding of their risks and identify key areas for improvement.

“This innovative tool empowers organisations to effectively manage compliance and enhance their overall security posture.”
