BDO welcomes three new partner hires. Tax partners Denise Brotherton (Melbourne) and David Ocello (Perth) join the firm along with Business Services partner Peter Zervos (Melbourne).

Denise Brotherton brings over 20 years’ experience as a Tax partner advising private and public clients on a broad range of tax matters including international and Australian compliance and structuring, due diligence, IFRS, risk management, and corporate governance.

Denise’s focus is on medium and large Australian inbound and outbound, listed and privately owned businesses. Her diverse client portfolio spans the manufacturing, private equity, life sciences, and agribusiness sectors. Denise was previously a Tax partner at EY.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have a partner of the calibre of Denise choose to join us at BDO. She has led extremely complex tax projects across multiple jurisdictions and sectors and has also supported clients with implementing and building their own inhouse tax capability,” said David Garvey, BDO Melbourne Managing Partner.

“Her wealth of experience as a highly regarded tax practitioner is a fantastic addition to our Melbourne office and our national Tax team.”

Joining BDO’s growing Tax ranks from Deloitte is David Ocello. David was a corporate and international tax partner for the last 11 years and the national mining leader for Deloitte’s tax practice.

David brings over 21 years of experience providing a broad range of tax compliance and advisory services, including advising on mergers and acquisitions, risk management and governance, and tax transformation for domestic and international clients focused on natural resources. David also holds a role with the ATO’s Energy & Resources working group.

“David is a recognised expert within the mining and mining services industries,” said James Massie-Taylor, BDO Perth Managing Partner. “Our team is very excited to have an expert of the quality of David join us and we look forward to utilising his two decades of experience advising the sector.”

David’s experience also includes advising Western Australian-based renewables and utilities.

Business Services partner hire Peter Zervos has 27 years’ experience advising privately held businesses and families in areas including board and banking advisory, accounting compliance, succession planning, audits, acquisitions and disposals.

His clients span a range of sectors, including retail, wholesale, export, manufacturing, hospitality, and property development.

“Peter has a very impressive network which he has built up over more than two decades of working with businesses, families, and individuals,” said David Garvey. “His commitment to building trusted business relationships and his extensive technical understanding will be a big asset to us.”

Peter joins BDO from Moore Australia where he was Business Advisory Director.
