Enhanced global application for SASB standards
The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards, covering 77 industries, provide a good source of guidance for companies preparing sustainability disclosures under IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information when there is no specific IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standard. SASB standards have been the remit of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) since August 2022 when the Value Reporting Foundation consolidated into the IFRS Foundation.
SASB standards have previously been identified to be United States-centric and not representative of global markets. So, in December 2023, the ISSB published changes - removing and replacing jurisdiction-specific references and definitions, without substantially changing industries, topics or metrics. These changes enhance the applicability of SASB standards to entities operating in countries other than the USA.
